| WHERE DO I START TO OPEN A CENTER?
STEP 1
Attend a FREE Center Orientation by calling 4C at
(407)
522-2252 ext. 4022. |

STEP 2
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION…
Location is very important if you are going to be
successful. Look at areas where there is a need for
child care, not an area where there is already a lot of
child care businesses. Check with the Zoning office in
your county to make sure the property is zoned for
business. |
STEP 3 Call DCF (Department of children and Families) at (407)
245-0470 to request an application packet. This will include
basic licensing requirement for opening a center.
STEP 4 Contact 4C Education Department for information on the
training requirements. As a director you will have to take
the required 40 hours of state mandated classes, plus earn a
director’s credential.
STEP 5 If you wish to be on the Information and Referral list for
your area, you MUST bring in the license for your child care
(from DCF) to 4C, and fill out a NACCAWARE information form.
A copy of the license will be made, and the information will
be entered into the referral database. 4C DOES NOT SEND YOU
CHILDREN. If a parent requests a list of providers in your
area, and you meet the request of the parent’s wishes, your
name will be on the list given to the parent. Please keep in
mind that parents often start a the top of the list and work
their way down…and just as often they do not make it to the
bottom of the list.
OTHER NOTES Have you thought of the start up funds? Here are some things
to keep in mind:
Estimate $15,000.00 for proper equipment for each class
area.
Allow adequate funds to pay staff competitively.
Can you offer benefits?
Estimate 60% of gross income = staff salaries.
Ongoing monthly expenses (food, restroom supplies, toys, game, etc.).
